Civil War veteran Frank Welcome Willis with grandson, Indiana, circa 1910

Description: Real photo postcard identified as Mr. Willis, Sr. and Grand child. The boy holds a drum. The lender stated that the older man, who is wearing a G.A.R. ribbon, was the father of Fred Willis who was married to Martha Rothrock.According to the History of Northeast Indiana; LaGrange, Steuben, Noble and DeKalb Counties, Vol. II (Lewis Publishing Co., Chicago and New York, 1920), p. 440-441, Frank Welcome Willis (1842-1913) lived in Richland Township, DeKalb County and served three years in the Civil War in the 44th Regiment, Indiana Infantry, Company K. He participated in the battles of Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Stones River and was wounded three times. He returned to Waterloo, Indiana and owned and edited the Waterloo Press, owned the Baxter and Willis (later Willis and Company) bookstore, and was elected to the state legislature in 1894.The grandson is possibly Fred Inglewood Willis (1905-1955), ancestor of the lender.
