Pop Junemanns Embassy restaurant, Indianapolis, Indiana, circa 1930

Description: Several men, one wearing an apron, strand in front of the brick structure with a hipped tile roof. Signs identify this as Pop Junemanns The Embassy, 2320, offering chicken and other delicatessen sandwiches.On December 26, 1925, Proprietor Fred Junemann (1866-1934), a native of Germany, opened the restaurant at 2320 W. 16th Street, on the northwest corner of Lafayette Road and W. 16th Street (then known as 2320 Speedway Avenue). He lived with his family in an apartment upstairs. The restaurant, which he operated with his wife Celia Hierholzer during Prohibition, offered live music, entertainment, and dancing. After Junemanns death in 1934, the business continued (now selling alcohol) under the name Pop Junemanns Embassy and became the Turf Bar in May 1939.
