Description: |
Several people stand in front of a two-story frame house. Pottery crocks are placed along the side of the house and at a downspout to catch rainwater. Written on the back of the print: Lindsy Beckelhymers on Ridge Road across the river from home.In 1900 and 1910, farmer Lindsey Coleman Beckelhymer (1856-1927) lived in Wabash Township, Fountain County, Indiana with his wife Emma A. Hall (1862-1934). Their daughter Virgil Beckelhymer (1888-1919, later Yerkes) lived with them. Based on other photographs, Virgil is the young woman standing to the left.Lindseys obituary states that he was a former resident of Wabash Township when he lived on the old home farm at West Liberty [referring to the West Liberty Church and Cemetery on the southeast corner of South Coffing Brothers Road and West Liberty Church Road]. This was near the town of Coal Creek (also known as Snoddy Mill). The Beckelhymers moved from this farm to Perrysville in about 1912. This house had previously been the home of Lindseys parents, Levi and Lovina (Coleman) Beckelhymer, who made stone potteryware in the 1860s.Atlases and descendants indicate that this house was located on the northwest corner of South Coffing Brothers Road (S 770 W, previously named Ridge Road) and West Liberty Road in section 2, Wabash Township. The house no longer stands.Print copied from a contact print from the original glass negative made by photographer William M. Benefiel of Perrysville. |
