View of gas pumps in front of Mercers Garage. The Mobil Oil station was owned from 1945 until 1978 by Marion Mercer and his wife Annie L. Mercer, then operated by their daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Byron Ward until in closed in 1995. It was located on the southwest corner of Hamilton Street and Long Lane in Wellsboro (which later merged with Union Mills). In 1952 the Mercers constructed and lived in the house seen to the right (which replaced an older house on the site) and built the adjacent garage a few years later.The auto garage and house still stand as of 2024. |
