Description: |
The Lafayette Fire Department hired contractor Peter Levandowski to build their Central Fire Station, also known as Station 1, in 1909-1910. The lower level had four bays for equipment, horse stables, and a kitchen. The upstairs had a large haymow, offices, and a dormitory for the firemen. The brick structure with a tile roof and tower was condemned in 1965 and demolished in 1967. As of 2020 the site is a parking lot in the Historic Centennial Neighborhood. |
