Bicycle accident fatality scene near Holy Rosary School, Indianapolis, Indiana, 1947

Description: Scene of an accident between a truck and a bicycle at an alley behind Holy Rosary School. The typed caption for the two police photographs reads Fatality Accident: Sept. 5, 1947 / Ronald Jones W/9 was run over and killed by a large truck failing to give him enough room to ride his bicycle through an alley in the rear of 159 E. Merrill St. According to the Indianapolis Star, the accident occurred a few feet from Holy Rosary School where the 10-year old Jones had just registered for fourth grade. The top view looks west at a banana and produce-filled truck, policemen, and the draped bicycle and victim. The bottom view looks east at a group of children and a Dodge ambulance or police car.The 159 E. Merrill Street address is probably transposed since Holy Rosary Catholic Church School is located at the rear of 520 Stevens Street.
