Description: Thomas Taggart (1856-1929) was an Irish immigrant who became a power player in state and national politics. During his term as Indianapolis mayor (1895-1901) he started the Indianapolis park system and the city acquired hundreds of acres. He later chaired the Democratic National Committee. As co-owner of the French Lick Springs Hotel he was rumored to have had an interest in illegal gambling operations.
