Thomas family buggy at Martins Buggy Shop, Nappanee, Indiana, 2013

Description: Mennonite business owner LeRoy Martin of the Martin Buggy Shop (left) and the owners son Thomas Gillespie inspect an 1870s buggy prior to restoration. The buggy was made in Wabash in the 1870s by Shiles, Wheeler, and Company (established in 1875) and purchased in approximately 1876 by Henry and Francis (Huff) Thomas. The buggy remained in the family and was stored in pieces in a farm building. It was restored for over $4,000 by owner Robert Gillespie.
