Edwin R. King building, Petersburg, Indiana, circa 1890

Description: Employees stand in front of a stone (or cast iron?) Italianate commercial building built in 1884. There are brooms, barrels, and large bags outside of the store. Edwin R. King (1832-1911) operated a furniture store in 1880, but after 1886 a grocery store occupied the storeroom. In 1900 a fire destroyed this building, then occupied by J. H. Viehe & Co., the Gold Mine grocers, on the 1st floor and the Knights of Pythias on the 2nd floor. [Source: Pike County Democrat, Feb. 9, 1900, p. 1]
