Cased daguerreotype of a young woman

Description: 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 in. cased daguerreotype of a young woman. The plate has been hand-colored with slightly pink face and hands and gold paint on her brooch and ring (note that although the ring appears to be on her right hand, daguerreotypes, tintypes, and some ambrotypes were laterally reversed, so this is probably her left hand). The daguerreotype has its original paper tape sealing it to the cover glass and simple brass oval mat. The wooden case is covered with leather with a figure of a woman holding flowers on the front and a patterned back. The case has a red silk cushion and a red velvet pinch pad. Handwritten in pencil on the white paper in the back of the case (behind the image), is: Taken by A. Fithian / of Cincinnati Ohio / At Connersville IA / Oct 1850.
