Description: The Merom Ferry crossed the Wabash River between Indiana and Illinois. Snapshot is timestamped August 1960. The car on the left is 1955 Chevrolet, and on the right is a 1960 Plymouth.The Merom Ferry crossed the Wabash River between Indiana and Illinois. The ferry, operated for over a century by the Plunkett and Cooper families, was bought by Hugh Thompson in 1957. It held 3 vehicles, with a 50 cent fare, and several passengers at 10 cents each. The 12 x 60 ferry was powered by a rowboat with 2 outboard motors and was guided from shore to shore with a cable and pulley system.
