Girls high school basketball team, Star City, Indiana, 1907

Description: Five young women, possibly high school basketball students, wear uniforms and hair bows and pose near a brick building, probably a school. One holds a basketball with 07 painted on it. It was postmarked from Star City, Indiana on May 15, 1907 and sent from Edna S. to Miss Hazel Cummins of Bentonville, Indiana. The message reads Dear Hazel, This is one of our Basket Ball Teams. Your mother call [can] point me out to you. I am expecting one of your pictures when you have some taken. Edna S.After seeing this image on a Facebook posting and comparing to other portraits, family members identified the girl holding the ball as their aunt Edna Pearl Stephens (1888-1960). Based on other photographs found online, the girl to the left is probably Myrtle Hamilton (later Valentine, born 1890). The girl 4th from the left is probably Ella Marie Leiter (later Bott, 1889-1970).
