Upper floors of the Schnull Block, Indianapolis, Indiana, circa 1912

Description: There are two partial signs: one reads WABA(k?) and the other Paints ___. In the distance are water towers and smokestacks.According to the Wholesale District Historic Area Plan, p. 124 (Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission), this four-story building was erected in 1863 on the southwest corner of South Meridian and West Maryland Streets. It was the first wholesale commercial building constructed in the Wholesale District. The building was altered after a fire in the late 1890s, and the round porthole windows were added at that time. A section of the Schnull Block collapsed on June 11, 1988 and the building was demolished.
