Written in pen is Where my father Edw. Aldendorf roomed on Indiana Ave. across from Uncle Schurrs jewelry store. My father is looking out of window on right, circle around.According to the 1883 Indianapolis city directory, Leonard Schurr Jr. was a jeweler at 78 Indiana Avenue and lived at 76 Indiana Avenue. Several people boarded at 77 Indiana Avenue, but there is no listing for a Mrs. Shelley near that address. The 1887 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map shows a two-story frame dwelling at 77 Indiana Avenue. By the 1910s a brick commercial building had been constructed in front of the house. The old address of 77 was changed to about 337-339 Indiana Avenue. |
