Description: |
On June 6, 1913 a fire that began in the pressing room of Brewer Hadleys haberdashery quickly spread to the adjacent buildings on the north side of W. Main Street, just north of the Hendricks County Courthouse. Businesses affected included Bert Campbells restaurant, Horace Milligans barber shop, L. A. Barnetts book store, Dr. Herbert Sears dental office, C. L. Thompsons drug store, and Walter Whites photo studio (the fire destroyed all of his negatives). The Estep Block (Hotel) on the corner of Main and Washington Streets survived and was most recently occupied by State Farm Insurance and Hendricks County Bail Bonds. The remainder of the 1/4 block was razed and replaced with new buildings. |
