Description: |
This July 4, 1976 Indianapolis Star article describes the disappointment by a McCormick descendant that the bronze tablet on the historic McCormick memorial rock will not be cleaned in time for the for the national bicentennial celebrations. The stone and tablet pays tribute to settler John McCormick, from whose cabin legislators chose the site of Indianapolis as the state capital. The memorial was located at the southeast corner of West Washington and Blake Streets, just east of the White River. |
