Description: Postcard showing the Indianapolis Public Library as seen from the American Legion Plaza in the Indiana War Memorial Plaza. In the foreground is Cenotaph Square located in a sunken garden. It was built in 1931 to honor Indianas war dead. Four black columns surround a black granite cenotaph (an empty tomb), originally designed to honor Evansville resident Corporal James B. Gresham, the first American killed in action during World War I. Postmarked July 26, 1944.
