Description: View looking northeast at the United States Arsenal. In the foreground is land owned by General Herman Sturm, bisected by Crooked Run, a small tributary of Pogues Run that was tunneled underground after 1900. Beyond Michigan Street are brick buildings constructed on the United States Arsenal grounds during and after the Civil War. Visible are the West Residence (completed in 1870), two guard houses, and the large Arsenal storehouse building (built in 1864) to the right. The campus became Arsenal Technical High School in 1912.Published on a yellow stereoview mount by photographer D. R. Clark of North Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis. The unrelated backlist notes Asiatic and Tropical views of Japan, China, and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) taken by Clark shortly after his work with a U.S. government expedition to Vladivostok, Russia, to study the transit of Venus in late 1874. On the return voyage, Daniel took photographs in Asia that were later published as stereographs.
