Beaded Indian hat purchased by donor's grandfather, John Essig, from an old Indian in the 1830s. Red material and white strip, bound in red and gray braid, beaded in red, crystal, green and yellow. A straight ban of material 3 inches wide gathered at the center to form the crown. Originally some type of decoration at top of crown to cover the gathering. Hat is 6 3/4 inches in diameter.
