Front: Script at top of postcard reads, Park View, Winona Lake, Ind.Back: Body of message reads, Dear Mother:- It rained and turned so cold that the children could only wade in the lake this PM. B[...] sure did have fun the big waves almost pushed them over. We are all going bathing tomorrow if it is nice. Herbert is tired. He has gone to bed. Chloe baked him a birthday cake has 11 candles on it. Addressed to, Mrs. James Lantz, Huntington, Ind., R.R.3. One of the artesian fountains near the Winona Hotel. The park like area of Winona Lake was not isolated to one specific area, but there was one area where the landscaping was featured. The concrete sidewalks were not the shortest distance between two points to keep you shoes out of the mud. They flowed with gentle curves. The abundance of artesian springs helped to create areas to listen to the gentle flow of water or to pause for a drink. The flowers were beautiful and the thickly planted. The garden work was labor intensive, as machines were not yet common. The public art provided the feel of an outdoor museum. Winona impressed those from the farm and those from the city. |
