Front: Script in bottom left reads, Park View, Winona Lake, Ind.Back: Body of message reads, I heard you have been having company. We have been having a nice time and are resting to the limit. I hope you enjoyed your trip too. Dorothy R. Addressed to, Miss Maud Snyder, W. High St., Springfield, Ohio. A unique view. Looking north in front of the Administration Building with the Lily/Swan pond on the right. The park like area of Winona Lake was not isolated to one specific area, but there was one area where the landscaping was featured. The concrete sidewalks were not the shortest distance between two points to keep you shoes out of the mud. They flowed with gentle curves. The abundance of artesian springs helped to create areas to listen to the gentle flow of water or to pause for a drink. The flowers were beautiful and the thickly planted. The garden work was labor intensive, as machines were not yet common. The public art provided the feel of an outdoor museum. Winona impressed those from the farm and those from the city. |
