Script on bottom of postcard reads, Otterbein Dormitory, Winona Lake, Ind. The Otterbein was located on Ninth Street across from the Westminster Hotel. It was built by the United Brethren denomination, and named in honor of Philip William Otterbein the founder of the United Brethren in Christ. It was used to house conference goers in the summertime and as a dormitory for Winona College in the winter (until 1917 for the college). It bragged that all of its rooms were outside rooms. During World War I, it was used by the soliders of Camp Winona. In the 1940s it was gutted and rebuilt as the Winona Lake Free Methodist Church. |
