The dock seems to be a hub of activitiy.Steam powered boats were long a part of the nautical endeavors at Eagle Lake and Winona Lake. They played an important transportation link between Warsaw and Winona Lake. A channel connected the lake water with a dock at a location north of the present day Winona Ave. near the intersection of the north/south and east/west railroads. The railroads brought passengers to Warsaw. The Big Four Station was located at the site of the former Little Crow Milling Company, and the Pennsylvania Station was located about five blocks to the west. Some of the steamboat names included “The City of Warsaw”, “Daisy”, “Welcome”, “Nash”, and “Eagle”. Others may have existed. The other role of the boats was to take visitors on cruises around the lake. Most of the boats were constructed on site. |
