Winona has a fascination and intriguing history dating back to the early nineties. Old timers still speak of the Chautauqua days when some of the countrys leading artists of that day appeared on the platform of the old auditorium, and lecturers of note debated the current issues of the day. Then came the period of part Chautauqua and part Bible conference, followed by the transition to full-time Bible conference. Among those oustanding in earlier Bible conference days are such names and the great commoner William Jennings Bryan, Dr. Wilbur Chapman, Evangelist Gypsy Smith, Dr. G. Campbell Morgan and others. These men, of great spiritual stature, preached the Word with a power and unction that blessed tens of thousands of believers and changed the lives of thousands more. Then came the Billy Sunday period and completion of the Billy Sunday Tabernacle, Wiona being the center from which this dedicated and fiery twentieth-century evangelist campaigned the large cities of the North American continent, resulting in many hitting the sawdust trail. Today the Winona Lake Bible Conference is a stronghold of Christianity, with many of todays great fundamental preachers, teachers, evangelists and Christian laymen, such as Dr. Billy Graham, Dr. Walter Wilson, Dr. Vance Havner, Stratton Shufelt, Hilding Halvarsen, Bev. Shea and many others, appearing to bless our hearts, change lives and win souls to Christ.Images within (accordion pull-out format) include the Sunday memorial home, Westminster Motel, Rainbow Point (former home of Homer Rodeheaver), Winona Hotel pier and beach, the Beyond the Sunset memorial, the Grace Collge Seminary building (McClain Hall), the Winona Hotel lobby and dining room, the Zondervan bookstore, the Auditorium, and the Billy Sunday Tabernacle.
