Description: |
The Edward Thompson family moved from Edinburgh, Indiana to Irvington to send their daughter Bona to Butler University. After graduation in 1897, her parents gave her a European tour. During the trip, Bona became ill with typhoid fever. She survived the trip home, but died shortly thereafter. In her honor her parents donated land, and $40, 000 to build a library for her alma mater. It opened in 1903 and served the campus until it moved to the Fairview campus in 1928. Today the building is headquarters of the Irvington Historical Society and Irvingtons cultural center. |
