Pony track at Fairview Park

Description: Although this postcard is labeled at the pony track, many of the animals pictured appear to be mules or donkeys. An advertisement for Fairview Park in the August 7, 1894, issue of the Indianapolis News describes the pony track as having ponies for the ladies and childrens riding and driving and donkeys for the little ones. The track was illuminated at night. The pony track was just one of the many features at Fairview Park. Other amenities included boat rides, a miniature train, bandshell, electric fountains, a merry-go-round, moving pictures, and deer and peacocks, which roamed free. The park often hosted traveling attractions such as the high diving horses, King and Queen, and in the 1910s, the Ojibwe reenacted Henry Wadsworth Longfellows Hiawatha along the banks of the Indiana Central Canal.
