The bronze of Socrates was made by W. V. Casey and it sits on a limestone tablet in Holcomb Gardens. The sculpture is 20 inches high x 13 inches wide x 6 inches deep and the tablet is 104 inches high x 48 inches wide x 10 inches deep. Hemlock was specifically chosen to be planted by the statue and stone benches flank the tablet. A part of the philosophers bench section of Holcomb Gardens, the space features quotes by Plato, Aristotle, John Locke, Mahatma Gandhi, Thomas Jefferson, Jesus Christ, and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. |
