Friday, April 13, 1951 was thedate of the Junior Carnival last year. Builtaround the theme of the Mardi Gras the carnival provided plenty of gaiety of New Orleans. The stage show entitled Show Boat,”included darkies, can-can girls, and wealthySouthern families.Voices from the past echoed through thehalls of U-school as famous entertainers performed in the old time Nickelodeon.” NoraBayes, Lillian Russell, and many others werepresent.A colorful floorshow was presented atAntoines, French Cafe. French pastries andcoffee were served.As the grand finale, Fern Gray and GeorgeMcClain were crowned King and Queen ofthe Mardi Gras. This royal coronation wasin East Hall. Pages and ballerinas escortedthe King and Queen and their court onto thestage for the crowning.Page thirty-seven |
