SENIOR CLASS HISTORYThe class of ’48 recalls with fond memories our Junior and Senior High years. In 1943, we, as Seventh graders, took a great interest in and helped make successfulthe Scrap Metal Drive. On the social side the traditional skating parties and theespecially successful Halloween party were held. The next year, in the Eighth grade, we were active in the Victory Corps. This extra large class was as active in their play as in their work.As Freshmen, the four home rooms held a picnic at Cascades Park. A good attendance was an important factor in making the picnic a success. Later in the year wesponsored a dance. In our Sophomore year we were not organized, but had a Sophomore council with arepresentative from each home room. We sponsored a successful dance, the Fall Hop,and at the end of the year held a Sophomore picnic at McCormick’s Creek. The yearended with the election of Junior officers and plans for our next year as Juniors. Our Junior year was a thorough success from beginning to end. We started the yearwith two dances: the Harvest Moon Dance in October and the George WashingtonDance in February. Our entire class began work on what developed into the biggestand the most profitable Penny Carnival ever held at University School. A vivid dayfor all was Junior Joe Day. An event that will always linger in our minds is our Junior Prom. The Juniors and Seniors enjoyed this last big event of the year in a beautifulgarden setting. As our last social project the Juniors went to McCormick’s Creek fora hilarious and chilly picnic. With our new officers chosen at the end of the Junior year, we started our final highschool year which we hoped to make the best ever. At the beginning of the year wehad picnics galore and loads of fun. Of course we had all the traditional Senior dancesafter the basketball games. Our Senior Class play, One Wild Night,” was given in December. We found ourClass had a lot of talented performers. The most unique Jordannus Skits ever were also given in December. As the yearwent on, many of our classmates had opportunities for scholarships. Then came the wonderful Senior Tramp Day with costumes as you never beforeimagined! And then the Juniors gave for us the beautiful Junior Prom of 1948!Finally the week we had looked forward to arrived—Senior Week with every daypacked full of excitement and fun. The year’s activities ended with the Baccalaureateand Commencement exercises.Yes, these have been memorable years of many good times, fond friendships, andvaluable training in living. It is our hope that those who follow will carry on thetraditions that the ones before us so thoughtfully passed on.The Jordannus staff has sincerely worked to bring you a great yearbook. W wishto thank our class sponsors, Miss Mead, Miss Kruse, and Mr. Gross, for the wonderfulhelp they have been in making this school year one we will never forget.Page thirty-two |
