Guided by Skillful Counselors,Dr. John J. RayPrincipal of University SchoolsMr. David W. BeggsAssistant Senior High PrincipalThe greatest change to take place this year in theadministration of University High School was the addition to the staff of Dr. David Beggs as assistantprincipal, newly arrived from Decatur, Indiana, wherehe held the position of principal, with Dr. Ray,principal of the High School, and Dr. Buffle, principal of the Junior High School. Dr. Beggs increasedhis knowledge of education and added much to thecurriculum of the school. While Dr. Ray was busyoverlording the senior high school, Dr. Buffie andDr. Beggs found time to write a book on Team Teaching. The bulk of their work was centered around thestudent, though. Every consideration was given theindividual as these three persons, Dr. Ray, Dr. Beggs, and Dr. Buffie, strove to present us with guide linesand patterns for our lives and futures. True, theytried to prepare all for college but they also gave usan excellent foundation for the present.Again, what would we have done without them?Constantly trying to help us make the proper decisions for ourselves. Much of their time was spent thisyear in trying to ready the new school for all students. The students were first and last and always with thedeans, and they provided incentive and inhibitionfor the students of University School. In addition to keeping the books in order, the secretaries provided an unequaled assistance to the student with all sorts of problems. The administration constantly tried to work forthe student, and the combination of deans, principals, and secretaries, the job seemed almost easy. But thetrue test of cooperation is making it look simple aspossible; and both the students and teachers wereproud of such a capable administration.Dean of GirlsDottie LackeyDean of BoysWilliam StaffordnoMrs. Loretta AtkinsSenior High Secretary27 |
