Description: The school building itself is an object in which wework, we socialize, and we go about our daily lives.The spirit and closeness of unity at a crucial basket¬ball game or at a time of mutual stress is somethingall our hearts have known at some time. This spiritis a warm and fulfilling feeling, and helps to makeus rounded individuals.What /s University School? When we count ourheads, we find 67 faculty members and 1138 students. But we are not simply a number—we arepeople with varied and sometimes complex experiences. As we study . . . act . . . socialize . . .participate . . . contemplate . . . think . . . react . . .and express ideas, we become intelligent, activemembers of society.University School opened officially in 1938 withthe dedication of our present building. But as farback as 1853 there was an observation UniversitySchool on campus for future educators, and by 1897practice teaching was introduced in a laboratoryhigh school. In 1911 this school was expanded toinclude an elementary school program.Since 1938, the enrollment has increased fromT approximately 680 students in grades 1-12 to about1200 students in kindergarten through twelfthgrade.
