Description: THE ROAD OF SPORTSRECREATION, HEALTH, and SPORTSMANSHIP are the signs whichdirect youth along the road leading to the realm of Sports. Although a byroad, this road is well marked; for it is the most popular of all paths. Atthe end of the school day students drop their studies, quit the main highway, and hike over trails leading to exciting and care-free fun. A boy maylinger long enough at a point on the trek to play a fast and furious game ofbaseball or basketball. A girl, less interested in this kind of pastime, mayhurry on to spend a delightful hour or so of horseback-riding. If they wish,a boy and girl may enjoy together a game of tennis, either as partners orrivals in friendly competition. Or perhaps they prefer to spend their afterschool hours in a skillful game of bowling. Around every turn in the roadwill be found still other fields of sports and play in which some zestful participants engage just for the fun of it, while others organize and follow therules of teamwork. However, whether play is just for fun or whether it isa responsible part on a team, activity on this Road of Sports in the modernhigh school meets the need of comradeship, of practice in fair play, and ofenjoyable exercise for mind and body. It provides also opportunities forlearning how to take defeat or hard-won victory. Noble characters are builtin youth along the Road of Sports. Boys and girls are fortunate in havinga pleasant side-trail to which they may eagerly turn at the end of theirstudies.o
