To qualify for membership, one must be in the upper third of his class scholastically, and he must be outstanding in leadership, character, and service. A group comprising not more than twenty percent of the graduating class is chosen by a faculty committee after the entire faculty has evaluated each student’s record.QUILL AND SCROLL, national high school journalistic organization,granted University High School a charter of membership this year in recognition of the meritorious work done in publishing THE QUAD. The fourseniors who have the distinction of being charter members of the newly-founded chapter are Larry McFaddin, president; Monica Wilkins, vice-president; Jim Woolery, secretary; Elisabeth Cole, treasurer.At the Fourth Annual Speech Arts Festival held at Terre Haute, Marianne Wiseman and Larry McFaddin received outstanding actress and actorrating for their work in the play “Londonderry Air.”During the school year two seniors, Dorothy Woodward and Jim Woolery, were elected to membership in the National Thespian Honor Society.Larry McFaddin, Dick Stull, and Allen Buskirk won first place and twohonorable mentions, respectively, in the Monroe County Kiwanis Essay Contest. Charles May won citywide honors in the National Unity Essay Contest.Mary Virginia Turner was announced winner in the Sectional HighSchool Girls’ Voice Contest held at Indiana University.Page twenty |
