Description: Timeline of a SchoolOld University School, Now I. U. School of Education.*I itPrimarily designed for student teacher training and experimentation by Indiana University, the first UniversitySchool, at Third and Jordan, was dedicated in 1938,housing students from nursery school through twelfthgrade. Mounting enrollment and numerous projects added to the realization that the old U-School was not adequate. Plans were made to construct a thirteen buildingcomplex on Tenth Street and State Road 46 bypass. InOctober of 1962, groundbreaking ceremonies took place.In September of 1963, elementary students moved tonew headquarters. Following in April of 1964, all classes,nursery through senior high, were in operation at thenew site. School year 1969-70 was U-Schools last yearunder I. U. administration. In September of 1970, U-School became officially a member of the new MonroeCounty Community School System. Once again, U-School is faced with former problems — lack of spaceand proper facilities for her future students and teachers. A huge, spacious high school on Kinser Pike is already underway, groundbreaking having taken place inthe summer of 1970. The new high school will not onlytake the place of University High School, but will takesome students from the over crowded B.H.S. district aswell.•Mt)*1kJ2^Present University School complex.2
