The MetropolitanYouth Council, sponsored by the Social StudiesDepartments of U-School and BloomingtonHigh School, enters its fourth year of service tothe community under the leadership of President Ridley Lemon; Vice President MarilynFreeman from BHS; Secretary Sally Rugg fromBHS; and Treasurer Tom Marshall. The U-School sponsor was Robert Pettijohn. The organization gave practical experience in government to its members as they studied communityproblems — the hospital controversy and county planning — and heard speakers from the citygovernment, Junior Chamber of Commerce, andIndiana University. The MYC instituted aDriver of the Semester contest this year. Contestants took both a written and a practical examination. The MYC also sponsored the Regional Hop between the final games of Bloomington’s regional. MYC was represented on severalcity commissions either in a voting capacity oras observers.
