Description:	. . . meet rough competitionThis year, Coach James Mason’s tennis teamis strengthened by four returning lettermen:Valdar Oinas, Jim Binkley, Tim Lemon, whowas invited to participate in the National Junior Indoors Tournament at St. Louis, and ToivoRaun, who won 6 and lost 1 to compile last season’s best record. This year’s team expects tobetter last season’s record of three wins andfour losses. Other prospects for the squad areDaniel Rothmuller, Bill Shive, Steve Krum, Bar-ratt Patton, Roger Patton, Chuck Milisen, andMack Brown. The racquetmen will be pittedagainst Cathedral and Park of Indianapolis,Bloomington, Columbus, Martinsville, New Albany, Crawfordsville, Terre Haute Schulte, Lafayette Jefferson, and Jeffersonville.Three returning lettermen, Tom Thomas,Jim Topolgus, and Don Lawson, will form thenucleus of this year’s golf team. Other hopefulsare Tom Hudson, Bill Weigel, Jon Estes, andBill Harrington. While five of these boys willcompete in dual meet competition, only fourare eligible to participate in the sectional andstate tournament. Last year’s team playedthrough an undefeated season, then went on tobecome runner-up in the state meet. With hopesof repeating this excellent record, this year’steam will be matched against teams fromSprings Valley, Bedford, Bloomington, Columbus, Seymour, Crispus Attucks, Southport, Warren Central and Washington of Indianapolis,New Albany, Evansville North, North Central,and Manual. Out of a possible 15 points, theteam with the most points wins the meet. Pointsare scored on the match, match, medal basis—one point for the first nine holes, one point forthe second nine holes, and one point for thelowest total score.Tim Lemon, sophomore tennis veteran, practices a return inthe gym.Dick Skirvin, junior, practices high jumping at the IU fieldhouse in preparation for the Hoosier Relays.Tom Thomas, senior golf letterman, practices his swing inhopes of repeating last year’s excellent performance on thegolf team.
