Buntin.The 1959-60 wrestling season proved to berather cheerless for Coach Robert Kelley’scharges. The Univees compiled a 4-10 recordduring dual meet competition, as they defeatedGreencastle, West Lafayette, Decatur Central,and Indianapolis Attucks. The U-Schoolerswere plagued by injuries1 this year. Veteran DanMcPheron was lost for the year when he suffered a pre-season leg injury. Lettermen DougDixon and John Bowen both received shoulderinjuries which kept them out for a large partof the season. Joe Roman had to get out of thesick-bed twice before winning the state championship in the 133 pound class. For the regional championship Joe decisioned Don Ellisof Lawrence Central 9-4. In the final matchof the state contest Joe pinned Jack Rumpza ofLafayette in 5:27. During the season, Joewrestled Rumpza and the match ended in adraw. Raymond Webb, who had 11 pins, onedecision, and one loss and was a state championfor the Univees last year, was the only otherUHS grappler to advance to the regionals1. However Ray was decisioned in the afternoon roundby Cleo Moore of H. E. Wood who eventuallywon the state championship at 127 pounds. Asa team, U-School finished in a tie for ninthplace out of a field of twenty-five.34
