We welcomed the award with a deep feeling of pride.Four years of studies, committee work, andlearning to get along with those who have differing tastes, habits, and abilities . . . livingin the present, while looking to the future . . .continually trying to better ourselves to beready to assume responsibilities as leaders oftomorrow ... we have worked and partied as aclass, while pursuing individual interests . . .the fads and fashions, the sports, the studies,the classes, the fun, the classmates—all played an important part in our high school life . . .the inspirations we acquired from knowing andworking with teachers and fellow studentshelped us to determine what we would like todo in the future . . . and so, recall the year.wewere . . .Freshmen . . . the long-awaited “first day”arrives — we’re in high school! We rushonto the second floor to check the Freshmanlist for our homerooms . . . how young thejunior high kids are this year! ... we wearour new wool sweaters and skirts to the firstfootball game, although the temperature isclose to 60° F . . . “Spring Fever,” our firstdance, complete with programs, picket fences, and millions of crepe paper rose buds . . .we are the first Freshman class to win theHomecoming Decoration Contest, with thetheme, “Let’s Can Those Yellowjackets” . . .bisecting earthworms in biology is educational, and rather sickening ... we are thefirst freshman class to have our own council, members — Rita Baldridge, RonnieKeene, Peggy Peterson, Woody Woods, andMary Walker ... we feel that by workingas a unit we will succeed!Rita Baldridge and Ray Johnson proudly wear the symbols of kingand queen of our freshman dance “Spring Fever.”95 |
