Description: BASKETBALL RUNDOWNThe Quarry Lads under a new coach, Jack Disler, had to postpone their first game of the 1957-58 seasonwith Fayettesville.On November 5, the Ellettsville Eagles journeyed to the local schoolhouse. This was the first game forthe Lads and the second for the Eagles. The Lads got off to a good start, and at the half-time, led with ascore of 30-22. In the second half, however, theEagles pulled ahead of the Quarry Lads and the Lads foundthemselves on the bottom when the final gun sounded with a score of 60-50.On November 8, the Lads encountered Helmsburg in the local schoolhouse. It was a very hard foughtgame, but the Lads were handed their second defeat by a score of 67-64.On November 15, the Lads traveled to Unionville for their first victory. The Lads proved too strong forthe Arrows and handed them a 58-49 defeat.The Lads with a two and one record, encountered the Morgantown Trojans in the local schoolhouse.The Trojans proved too much for the Lads and we received a third defeat with a score of 72-43.On December 3, the Lads traveled to University High School at Bloomington. The Univees being muchtaller, beat the Lads 78-56.On December 6, the Lads encountered the Smithville Skibos who hadnt lost a game. The Lads playeda very good game, and when the final gun sounded, the score stood at 55-55. Smithville pulled away inthe last minute of the over-time to win 61-57.The Quarry Lads played Monrovia on December 14. The Bulldogs, being coached by Dick Brannam,the former coach of Stinesville, were handed a defeat of 53-44.On December 17, the Lads played host to Lyons. It was a close game, but the Lads won in the finalseconds when two free throws were made. The final score was Stinesville-53, Lyons-52.Three days later, the Quarry Lads traveled to Charlton. The Lads had a little trouble in the first half,but broke loose in the second half. The final score was 70-49 in Stinesvilles favor.On January 3, the Quarry Lads traveled to Ellettsville with hopes high, but the Eagles turned the Ladsaway by defeating them 72-48.On January 10, the Lads found themselves on the road again. This time they traveled to Coal City.This was a very close game, but the Lads proved a little too strong for the Colts. The final score wasStinesville-42, Coal City-41.On January 17, the Quarry Lads traveled to Eminence to play in the Tri-County Tournament. TheLads played Ellettsville in the first game Friday night. The Lads having a very bad first half, just couldntget going and were defeated by the Eagles with a score of 75-60.The Lads on January 31, played host to the Unionville Arrows. This was a hard fought game, but theLads just couldnt get started. The Arrows pulled away in the last half and handed the Lads a defeat of 67-54.February 7 found the Lads playing Solsberry on the home floor. It was a very exciting game and thefinal score showed another victory for the Lads with a score of 79-59.On February 11, the Lads traveled to Fayettesville to play the postponed game. The final score was53-46 in Fayettesvilles favor.
