OPEN HOUSE DRAWS LARGE CROWDOctober 19, 1958, the trustee, teachers, and local citizens held Open House in the recentlycompleted elementary school building, for parents and patrons of the school. The hours werescheduled from onr-thirty to four, but people were still arriving after dark.The program began with the flag raising ceremonies by the Color Guard, Burton Woolery PostNo. 18, of the American Legion. While the flag was being raised, the drummers of our highschool band did the fanfare roll. As soon as the flag was secured, our entire Concert Band playedThe Star Spangled Banner. ”Following, the band gave a concert in the gymnasium with Mrs. Marian Kaufman directing.Their numbers drew enthusiastic applause as they played Pacific Grandeur Overture, Wavesof the Danube Waltz, Deep River Rhapsody, High Lights from The King and I, KentuckyBabe, Washington Post March, and the school song.Members of the high school faculty served refreshments of cookies, coffee, and apple cider inthe dining room which had been artistically decorated by Mrs. Bennetts art class. Also, basketsof flowers from organizations and friends of the school decorated the dining room, corridors, andelementary class rooms of the building.The elementary teachers greeted patrons and friends in their classrooms, where each proud mamaand papa could see his childs homeroom with samples of classroom work on display.Many compliments and good wishes for the school extended to school officials and faculty helpedto make this occasion one to be long remembered.■■JIBMrs. Bennett serves apple cider to the first guests, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Jerrell and friends.5 |
