■ ■ - • ■ ■ ■ ■ ■■ k * OS■SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: Phillip Jacobs, Vice-President; Marilyn McCammon, Secretary; Linda Deckard, Treasurer; Malcolm Sylvester, President.HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF ’58As the class of ‘58 entered Smithville High School in the fall of ‘54, we saw stretched before us,four long years of hard work before our ultimate goal, graduation, could be attained. To guide our classefforts throughout our first year, Linda Deckard, Phyllis Jacobs, David Mitchell, and Phillip Jacobs wereelected as class officers. Mrs. Taff was chosen as our class sponsor. The main event of this year wasa class picnic at McCormick’s Creek State Park.Entering our Sophomore year, Fidelia Sylvester, Linda Deckard, Sharon Jean, and Lewis Nellingerwere elected class officers. Mrs. Deckard was chosen as the class sponsor.As Juniors we found ourselves one year closer to graduation. We began in earnest to build up ourtreasury for the Senior trip. Phyllis Jacobs, Marilyn McCammon, David Mitchell, and Phillip Jacobs wereelected our officers. Mr. Rogers and Mr. McCoy, a student teacher, were chosen as our sponsors. Tomake money for our treasury, we sold magazines. The sale of them totaled $350, which topped all previous records. Our class was in charge of all concessions at school and at games which brought the classa large profit. Our play “Desperate Ambrose’’ was a Western comedy which proved to be very successful.The class enjoyed a Chili supper at the school and also a picnic at Yellowood Lake where the boatingwas super.September ‘57 found us electing Malcolm Sylvester class president, with Marilyn McCammon, LindaDeckard, and Phillip Jacobs. The decoration of our Fall Festival Float came first on the agenda. Thencame the “car wash” which added to our class treasury. In October we planned and planted flower bedsin the school yard to improve the looks of the grounds. The last day of school before Christmas vacationthe class put on a Christmas Convocation for the school. Closely following came spring vacation. Thenback to school we trooped. We could see that it was not the end, but only the beginning, for May was herewith final exams and -- graduation. Finally our long awaited trip to Wishington, D.C. was about to becomea reality.63 |
