Smithville High School, The Searchlight, 1954, Page 19

Description: WE LOOK INTO THE FUTUREIt is customary for the class prophet to consult someone who can unveil the future and foretell thedestiny of each member of the senior class.First of all, I decided it would be better if I would drop in on Madam Zora, a very famous crystal“ball gazer’’. I stepped in to her misty chambers and she softly asked if I would like to gaze into thefuture of my classmates. Of course, I was ever so eager to see just what fate held in hand for us.The vapor from the ball seemed to curl in a peculiar manner until I made out these words: 1954Smithville High School Graduates in the year 1975.Imagine my consternation when I saw none other than Johnny Kelly, who is operating a Hot Rod RaceTrack with the assistance Darrell Humphrey who is driving the “Special”.Time seems in a hurry as another picture flashes into view. Mrs. Dally Carmickle(Fay Callahan)is still over on the ridge in her new three story home. She seems to have quite a large family, or couldit be neighbor’s children? No, she is calling them in the lunch, so I suspose all six of them are hers.Oh! yes I missed the twins.Up in Maine, I find Ruth Bostic running the Bostic Daily Gazette. Her star reporter David DePhue, formerly known as Choclate, was out covering a big bank robbery.Time waits for no one, so on we fly to find Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chambers (Georgia Brown),running the “Tunnel of Love” on Long Island. We also find Jack Deckard baby sitting with Georgia andLeonard’s triplets. At this juncture the scene suddenly changes, and I spy Jerry Johnson getting ready to go on the airat the Axsom T. V. station WXYIB on Boone Ridge, owned and operated by David Axsom. Sharon Crumis acting as their assistant and secretary. In the little metropolis of Dellville, within the magistrate’s court, Stanley Reeves is earnestlypleading the case of State vs. Miller ( Wallace) on a charge of driving too slowly on Main Street, therebycongesting the city traffic. The vapor seems to envelope me completely and different places whisk by in rapid succession. Awayout in Fort Scott, Kansas, Charles Freeman and Larry Smith have given up their literary training altogether and are operating an excellent ranch. Freeman is married, but Smith obstinately refuses to bebossed.Gwen Miller and Rosetta Tieman, after making their fortunes as Powers models in New York, gaveto Smithville High School one-half of the interest on their money for one year, which was $500,000.Fred Wells married soon after finishing College, and began his work as principal of Sanders HighSchool. At the last census taken, he had five daughters and seven sons.Time is going so fast I can hardly keep up with it. In the headlines I see the name May and WhiteCarnival. It seems Thelma and Mona have make quite a name for themselves since they have the mostfamous side shows in the world.A Hollywood wrestler now climbing the ladder to success with the help of his manager is none otherthan our own little Kenneth Kirkman. He is managed by Rodney Sowder who has a large group of wrestlerin training.Madam Zora suggested that I watch close, for my fortune was to be seen next. After five years of cashier work, I saw myself as the wife of a prosperous surgeon in Miami, Florida. After seeing all of these things which are yet to come, I decided that I must record what had justbeen revealed to me. With that, classmates, I beg to leave each of you to your fate, and may fate be kindto you. The Prophet,Loettea Humphrey
