Description: CLASS CHRONICLEIzHey slow down a minute! Let’s take time out from all this frenzied last-minuteactivity that comes with being seniors and go back over the past four years. It was in September of 1950, that we entered the halls of Smithville High Schoolfor the first time. There were 51 of us. Remember the first day with its madhouseconfusion! But we were either too excited or confused to be tired. That year we pulledtogether for the first time to elect class officers. Keith Sowder was our president. Asfreshmen we werent too active, although we had two class parties--one at McCormick’sCreek and the other at Spring Mill. Mrs. Deckard was our sponsor. As sophomores, we very ably filled the gap between the lofty upper-classmen andthe lowly freshmen. The 39 of us who returned to school took part in as many activitiesas possible, but we lost eleven class-mates along the way. Keith was our presidentagain. The highlights of this year were a party at the home of Mrs. Conard, our sponsor, and a trip to Madison. The junior year was a busy one for all of us. Larry Smith led us as president. Weordered our class rings, and they were really something to brag about for weeks. Thenthere was that annual production, the class play. Ours, a three-act comedy, entitledThe Campbells Are Coming,” was quite a success. It was directed by Mrs. Hope. Thebanquet for the seniors was probably the biggest event of the year. Since we wantedours to be something extra-special we finally came up with the idea of a Gay Ninetiestheme. We planned and schemed, and decorated Skyland Lodge for the affair, and weeven dressed in colonial costumes. A party at Cascades and a trip to Fountain Ferry inLouisville rounded out the social activities for us. Mrs. Badger sponsored these outings. After four long, hard years of work 23 of our original 51 have finally made it tothe last stretch. Our first duty of the year was to elect our class president and sponsors. We chose Loettea Humphrey, president, and Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Wisley, sponsors. This year as seniors we had our biggest year. We published our school paper, TheSkibo Skimmer; we sponsored a Hallowe’en Carnival in the gym; we ordered namecards and announcements, and caps and gowns; and we gave our play, His OzarkCousin. Perhaps the most important activity of all was the publication of the 1954Searchlight, our yearbook, for through its pages we’ll have a lasting memory of S. H. S.Now we are looking forward to the Banquet the juniors will give in our honor,Class Day, Baccalaureate, and finally--Graduation itself. To the underclassmen and faculty that will still be here next September, strivingto beat past records and achieve new goals, let us say, We’ll be coming back to cheeryour teams and to see all the old friends that we liked so well.
