C OMMENCEMENTForty Seniors, the largest rural class in the county, graduatedApril 27, 1942. The welcome was made by the principal, Mr. C.C. Griggs. Dr. Ray H. Montgomery of Vincennes gave an interesting and appropriate address. A distinctive and pleasant additionto the program was the music furnished by the school band underthe direction of Mr. Ernest Brown. The diplomas were presentedby Superintendent Poling after which Mr. Griggs gave the Benediction. This Commencement was decidedly a fitting climax tothe past twelve years of school.SENIOR PLAYThe Senior Class presented a comedy in 3 acts The Crazy SmithFamily by Katherine Kavanaugh on March 27-28 at 8:00 o’clockP. M. in the gym. Amazing talent was displayed by the entirecast consisting of 6 boys and 6 girls.Amusement was afforded an appreciative audience as the SmithFamily prepared for the biggest football game of the seasonstarring their son, Tony. Ma and Pa Smith became vexed withtheir 2 sons and 2 daughters, with their friends and Ma’s oldmaid sister and her professor friend.MINSTRELOn Nov. 24 and 28 the Senior Class with a hillarious, fullclass cast, gave The Rainbow Minstrels in three parts.Grand Minstrel First Part starred four endmen, two interlocutors, and a colored chorus of thirty members.The second part, the Olio, consisting of special acts byindividuals or groups of Seniors, featured singing, tap dancing,Bazo Ka Band, square dancing, a monologue, and a dialogue.The Afterpiece starred two blackfaced comedians in a burlesquing dialogue, Black Clouds in China.We believe the audience enjoyed the shows as much as we enjoyed doing them.Wham Boo!IAfter 12 years of restrictive discipline the Seniors celebratedby entertaining the public with their own particular brand ofridiculous antics April 24 with a program entitled Senior Nite*Every senior co-operated to make this ’nite* a success and oneto be remembered. Fun, laughter, jokes, special acts, readingof wills and prophecy—just a conglomeration! IThe main event was the presentation of a paddle (with holes init) to the Principal by the Senior class to be used on the Seniorclass of *43. |
