Description: Hello Harmony Lovers (and Creators of the WorldsWonderfully Zany Yearbook),Success! Webster says success is the gaining of wealth, fame, etc.; theprosperous termination of anything attempted.I disagree! My definition of success has greatly changed over the last fewyears. If you would have asked me what I thought success was eight yearsago, I would have quickly replied, The progressive attainment of God-givengoals, or in secular language, the achievement of your personal orcorporate aims. Over the years, I have taught that an important key tosuccess is to find a need and fill it. Also, I have advised that reallysuccessful people had goals, and more importantly, written goals. Then, Iwould counsel that people must work toward their goals by researching andeducating themselves in their chosen fields. Remember the old TVcommercial of the man flying into his Hertz Rent-A-Car and the announcersaying, Let Hertz put you into the driver’s seat?Ive always felt one needs to picture himself successfully in his dreams. What happens in the mind will happen in time. You dont just wake up oneday and, by accident, find yourself in Hawaii. You plan your trip, dreamabout it, make reservations for hotels and transportation and, eventually, get on an airplane. Many people with very limited incomes take wonderfullyexciting trips because they make up their minds to do it, and dream, plan, and save until their dreams or goals come true.It took $170 million a year to run Heritage USA, The Inspirational Network, our college and related worldwide ministries, so when people came into myoffice and saw a box on my desk labeled Key to Success, they would, witha big smile on their faces, open it...I would watch their smiles fade asthey would read the one word written inside, Work.Work is and has always been at the core of success. I put WORK alongside apositive mental attitude in its importance. Also, you cant beat thegolden rule as a basic principle of success, Do unto others as you wouldhave them do unto you.Today, for me, real success is not necessarily measured in material orfinancial achievement. Having two wonderful kids and two grandkids makesme feel more fulfilled and successful than any achievement this generationcurrently accepts as a measure of success. Being at peace with oneself andhaving a really good friend is true success and cant be measured indollars and cents. Many have spent a lifetime working toward beingsuccessful only to find, when they got there, it was not what they reallywanted, that material achievement did not make them happy. The name Bakker comes from Holland, and one of my favorite stories is aboutthe Queen of that beautiful country. Her Majesty wanted to honor, with aroyal state dinner, the simple farmers of the land, whom she felt were soimportant to the overall agricultural success of her nation. Many of heraides tried to discourage her, saying these farmers would be ill at ease insuch a formal setting. She insisted they go ahead with the grand occasion.During the meal, one of the farmers picked up his fingerbowl and began todrink from it. A snicker began to ripple from those in the know. TheQueen, seeing what was happening, picked up her fingerbowl and began todrink from it. Protocol dictated all must follow the Queen, so everyone atthe royal banquet drank from their fingerbowls. She demonstrated true
