It was an adventure, food for my soul & spirit. I hikedup Machu Picchu, waited for 5 days deep intothe jungle, saw an ancient Inca sun celebration,talked to women in the markets about weaving,;family, & life,of incredible poverty, yet an enormous strengthculturally. And from the community, I saw a senseof pride, belonging and mutual respect. Thesegentle people awoke much in me. A nightmarefollowed with the devastating war in theMiddle East.IW* .A ■%This growing economicof culture, leaving arenders us empty. WeEastern thinking & philosophy, Western technology,J indigenous spirituality—all need to exist together,blend while being able to maintain an integrity &harmony. Only through diversity can there be an .„ exchange which is necessary for growth. IO rAmerica, thefreedom, theto lack a respect OP maybe an appreciation fordifferent cultures. This lack of understanding\ cant be replaced with a feeling of greatness or.-.strength and called freedom. We are not freeiif we cant acknowledge true diversity in politics,Lreligion, traditions & culture. Yes, we do■measure-up everything to the norm. We eat beautiful,fl yellow corn—it tastes so sweet—once it was uneven’land of many colors. Maybe it is different in taste.rlike the lucious, wild strawberry compared to the!i perfect, watery mega-berry we find at the super-M. market now. This need to conform, to make somethingmore appealing, more perfect is more than a compromise—it is a tragic loss.■1XX |
