Description: .1 fDaniel Baro154Zen ft & j| NowId like to respond to Roc and Bill’s questions in an integrated way.Roc asks why we work here. For me,it was a spiritual path that led me toM : Harmony. After realizing that Political Science was not going to changeijthe world, I dropped out of college and became a Yogi (turban and all.)When I returned to college, I majored in philosophy and religion. Upon/ reflecting on Eastern/Western religion and the age old debate between* Plato and Aristotle ( what comes first, spirit or matter), the meaning ofbecame clear to me i.e. the meaning of life is to make life meaningful.Upon further reflection, I realized that what makes things meaningful1 involves capacity to effect the people and events in our life. HumanIS beings have the only pro active consciousness that I am aware of. If||gk; through our action we can improve ourselves, our relationships, our worldIl|p ... Well, that was wrought with the meaning for me. It also led me to education. Why,you ask? Well, the ultimate questions of curriculum theoryWjSj are directly related to the ultimate theological questions i.e. What is theli|l meaning of life? What is valuable? How should a person live his/hery|| ’ life? What is the responsibility of the individual to the whole? I came to iIlli LU. to explore these questions theoretically as they relate to theWf curriculum. One day I got a call about the possibility of a new schoolgetting started....Would I be interested? It has been a continuallymeaningful experience.
