Description:	ORVILLE REDENBACHER-’’BEFORE AND AFTEROne day, when youre sitting with a grandchild on each knee, yourgood old days will come to life in stories about watching the Berlin Wallcrumble on live television, dancing to MTV all night at a pajama party orpopping up snack food in a microwave oven.At age 83, my most important before stories tell of a way of life beforetelevision and microwave ovens. They tell of experiences that haveliterally made me who I am and, in turn, made my life a success.Before transports me back in time to my familys farm in Brazil,Indiana, where I was born in 1907. There, even when I was too young toohelp out, my toys would keep me occupied in the corn fields. Later, as ayoung boy working on the family farm, we awoke at 4 a.m. every day andworked until dark - not only building a strong body, but strong workethics.There I learned persistence and dedication, two qualities of ahomespun philosophy of business, and life that would follow me foreverafter. Although my words -- never say never, integrity is a must,anything worth having is worth striving for - may sound corny, theidea behind them cannot fail to produce a popping success.My formal education was in a one-room, brick schoolhouse where oneteacher taught all eight grades. In addition to learning the art ofconcentration (from studying when others close by were reciting aloud), itwas in that schoolhouse that I learned the importance of education. Fromthere, I pursued a degree in Agriculture at Purdue University.Then,armed with a dream and the knowledge to make it come true, Ideveloped the popcorn hybrid that produces my number one sellingGourmet Popping Corn.While my most valued before stories may not incorporate changingtechnologies and trends, they do contain the key to a successful after.And, when all is said and done, its important to remember that timesspent with loved ones, family and friends are the memories you will holddearest.
