Description: |
kneeling on a piece of wood the size of a postcardand time stops and its up to you.Thats where I am with my graduation. In mymind, time has stopped—Ive got two options, tofall or to jump. It doesnt seem like it makes adifference, but it does because only one lets youcatch the trapeze, which I think symbolizesdifferent things to different people. For me, itshappiness. Failing can be a lot like fallingbecause they both make you feel so helpless. When they lower you down, it jolts you backinto reality. Its so uncomfortable after youvejust been on top of the world. When youre onthe ground you feel like youre walking on yourhands with your legs stuck behind your head orsomething equally difficult. But at the sametime, its a wonderful feeling. It just feels good—an unexplainable feeling like youve beenthrough something scary. When you finish &suddenly all the feelings you would have beenfeeling if you hadnt been numbed by fear flowthrough you and you say this was the best part orthat was the best part, but really, whatshappening to you right there is the best partwhen all your emotions are alive—and it doesnthave anything to do with graduation projects.—Carolyn/98 visuals by Keith Romaine |
