Miss Mildred Reeves sponsored them.They all turned out Oc-FRESHMENThe Freshmen Class was delightfully entertained at the home of Dorothy Lee with a Christmasparty. The evening was spent by games and contests.SOPHOMORESSay talk about spooks. Those Sophomores sure did look like them. They all came masked attheir Halloween party and sure did have fun. After a few games and contests, they made a bomb fireand roasted weiners and marshmallows.Azalee Freeman invited the Sophomore class to her home December 23, at a Christmas party. Theclass exchanged presents and enjoyed the evening very much.SCHOOL IN SPELLING CONTESTA local spelling bee was held Monday morning at 8 :30 p. m. before the student body to determine who should represent the school in the spelling contest at Paoli, Saturday, March 8, wdiich issponsored by the Louisville Times. The best spellers from the third, fourth fifth, sixth, seventh andeighth grades entered the local spelling bee. Ruth Stevens was declared winner, winning overKathryn Stevens. Principal H. C. Weathers was judge of the contest and Carl Smith and MariePerkins were pronouncers. The winner at Paoli will be sent to Washington. Ruth Stevens ranked19th at Paoli, among 50 contestants.JUNIORSTo start the beginning of the school year out right, the Juniors looked around and decided everybody looked hungry for chili soup. They all got together and decided to have a chili supper downtown at 5 :00 oclock. Say you should have seen the people flocking around the doors trying to geta bowl of chili. And was it good ?Along about Christmas they decided it would be a good idea to have a Christmas bazaar. Theypicked the school house as the place to have old Broddie Gillaspy auction off everything they hadto sell. Some of you ask Walter Smith about the doll he bought, and see what he says.PRESIDENT BRYAN SPEAKS AT WASHINGTON PROGRAMThe Washington bicentennial program was held at the school gym, Friday evening, March 4,1932, at 7:00 p. m. President William Lowe Bryan of the Indiana University was the principalspeaker of the occasion who urged that it is the duty of our people to put in the hearts of our children, the spirit of George Washington. President Bryan expressed that we are at the present in aValley Forge and that we need a George Washington to bring us out of this condition.The first hour of the program was in charge of the school. Carl Smith acted as master of ceremonies of the affair.After the school program it was turned over to the county. The countys program consisted ofthe old fashioned Virginia Reel. Everybody enjoyed this very much.Page Thirty-two
